2 Samuel 22:31-32

As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?

David’s life was not a bed of roses. His twenties were spent running from the jealous King Saul. His thirties were spent uniting a divided kingdom. In his fifth decade, there was that little problem with Bathsheba. After that, consequences to his sin sprouted like unwelcome weeds. But in the midst of all his challenges, even the self-inflicted ones, this man after God’s own heart never wandered far from God. The following are some of the truths that David took to the grave:

  • The holy God is perfect. Following the holy God will always have you walking on the right path.
  • The Lord’s word is flawless. Everything God says is right. His promises are always true.
  • God is a shield. He is our protector in the midst of every storm and attack.
  • God is our Rock. He is immovable and unchangeable, the firm foundation.

No one sails on calm waters all the way home. Our ship will get rocked! But today’s passage gives us great truths to nail down. And as we sail for home, we can say with David, “Who is God besides the Lord?”

Father, thank You for Your perfect way, Your flawless word, and Your constant protection. You are our solid foundation. There is no God besides You. Thank You in Jesus’ name. Amen.
