Ezekiel 11:19-20

I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

This passage appears on the pages of Ezekiel like an oasis in the desert. In this section of the book, God has been describing His judgment on the leaders of Israel. They gave in to idolatry and rebelliousness. They had forsaken the God who chose them to be His own. The glory of God left the temple in Chapter 10. But here, God reminds the people that He is far from being finished with them.

God will bring His people back home. He will take their divided hearts and give them hearts focused solely on Him. He will put a new passion in them to follow hard after Him. He will remove their hardened hearts bent on sin and insert hearts that are pumping spiritual vitality throughout their bodies. When God works in His people, they follow and obey.

God will bring you back home, too, if you let Him. He wants you to be His child. He desires to be your God. He will take the heart that is divided and make it fully His. He will take your spirit that has been running from Him and replace it with a desire to follow Him. He will remove the heart calloused from years of sin and give you one that beats for Him. Do you want this kind of change? The following prayer will help you get started.

Father, I am tired of running and tired of this life separated from You. I have been doing my thing, living my own way, and it has worn me out. I want to be changed by You . . . a new spirit, new heart, new passion to follow hard after You. I don’t want to share my loyalties. Give me an undivided focus to obey Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
