Sustain Me

Psalm 119:113-120
ס Samekh

I hate double-minded people, but I love your law. You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. Away from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commands of my God! Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees. You reject all who stray from your decrees, for their delusions come to nothing. All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross; therefore I love your statutes. My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.

Sometimes the weight on our shoulders is burdensome. Our legs are heavy and our knees start to buckle. Dread fills our minds and acute anxiety takes our hearts hostage. During these times our prayer is a simple one—Lord, just keep me standing up.

The psalmist must have been going through a troublesome time when he prayed,  “Sustain me, my God…”.  Help me withstand the challenge. Help me weather the storm. Support my body and soul. Allow me to endure. Protect me from the pressure. Don’t “let my hopes be dashed.”

Are you carrying a heavy burden today? Do you need God to uphold you? Are you afraid that your hopes will be dashed? Here is a prayer for you to take to the heavenly Father. He will hear and answer according to His promises.

Father, my heart is heavy. My body is worn down. My spirit is broken. My emotions are erratic. Disappointment in the past produces fear that my hopes will be dashed again. I can’t bear the load any longer. I plead for You to uphold me. Please sustain me and I will praise You for Your power and deliverance. Please support me today so I can praise You tomorrow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
