Stop the Struggle

John 6:63-65

“The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life. Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

The Bible says that we are dead in our trespasses and sin. We are spiritual corpses unable to make a move toward God. Jesus said, “…the flesh counts for nothing.” Left to ourselves, we cannot work our way to God, can’t be good enough for God, and can’t somehow earn a standing before God.

It is the Spirit who gives life. The Holy Spirit awakens us. He is the One who causes us to seek Jesus. He is the One who allows us to say, “I believe.” He is the One who breathes life into our dead souls. Jesus said, “…no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them.”

So, stop the struggle. You can’t be good enough for God. In the entire world, there aren’t enough good deeds to place you in a relationship with the Father. Accept the free gift that God offers. Your desire means that He is at work in your life. It is the Spirit who will enable you to trust and to live a life that pleases God. The Spirit is the One who gives life.

Father, I am tired of struggling to get to You. I am exhausted in my efforts to have a relationship with You. Please do Your work in my heart. Breathe life into my dead soul. Cause me to awaken as a new creation in Christ. In His name. Amen.
