Psalm 81:1-10
For the director of music. According to gittith. Of Asaph.

Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! Begin the music, strike the timbrel, play the melodious harp and lyre. Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival; this is a decree for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob. When God went out against Egypt, he established it as a statute for Joseph. I heard an unknown voice say: “I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. In your distress you called and I rescued you, I answered you out of a thundercloud; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Hear me, my people, and I will warn you—if you would only listen to me, Israel! You shall have no foreign god among you; you shall not worship any god other than me. I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

Strike up the band! Beat out a rhythm with the percussion. Go crazy on the stringed instruments. Sound the horn! Regardless of how you are feeling it’s time to celebrate! Sing from the bottom of your heart and the top of your lungs. Shout loud to the God who is our strength.

Today’s focus is not on our problems but on the person of God. He is the One who has delivered us from the slavery of sin. He removed the heavy burden from our shoulders. We called out to Him and He rescued us. He is the only One to be honored and worshiped. God will fill our hearts with good things.

So let the party begin. Start the celebration right now, right where you are. Shout out, “God is my strength!” Sing with joy your favorite praise song. Let God know how much you love Him by your praise.

Father, help me hold nothing back. Help me get as excited about You as I do my favorite sports team. Help me raise my voice in praise to the One who raised Jesus up from the dead so I can have eternal life. Renew my passion to praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
