Psalm 31:19-24

How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you, that you bestow in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in you. In the shelter of your presence you hide them from all human intrigues; you keep them safe in your dwelling from accusing tongues. Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love when I was in a city under siege. In my alarm I said, “I am cut off from your sight!” Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help. Love the LORD, all his faithful people! The LORD preserves those who are true to him, but the proud he pays back in full. Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.

Do you feel like you are living in a besieged city? Circumstances of life have you surrounded on all sides and there is no relief in sight. You feel like your situation has alienated you from God, cut off from His sight.

That’s where David was in today’s passage. The enemy had him cornered with no way of escape. But in the midst of the seemingly helpless situation, God shows David the wonders of His love. He heard David’s cry for mercy. He provided a refuge, shelter, and the needed help to break free.

God can do the same for you. Your siege is not too much for Him. Your cries for help are heard. He “preserves those who are true to him.” He will come to you, remove the blockades, and put you in a safe place. Be strong! Take heart! Keep your confidence in the Lord!

Father, I feel surrounded with no way out. In front and behind, to my right and left, circumstances of life have me trapped. So, I put my hope in You. Please show me the wonders of Your love. Please hear my cries for mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
