Do you ever have trouble praying for your children? I do. I find myself asking for the same requests. I want to pray in a fresh way and today’s prayer is just that. As David neared death, he desired three things for his son.
1 Kings 2:1-3
When the time drew near for David to die, he gave a charge to Solomon his son. “I am about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the LORD your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses.”
Here are today’s talking points:
- A Prayer for Strength: We all know that our children are growing up in a challenging world. Families are being redefined. Truth is relative. Faith is often mocked. Pray that God will give your children strength to stand strong, even if they have to stand alone.
- A Prayer for Maturity: Our age or years as a Christian does not necessarily translate into spiritual maturity. Many young men and women are spiritually mature. They have determined to follow hard after Jesus, regardless of the cost. Pray that your children will follow Jesus all of their days and that they will demonstrate spiritual maturity even in their younger years.
- A Prayer for Obedience: The world is filled with distractions. Compromise and cutting corners are the norm. Pray that your children will be men and women of the Word and will always be determined to “walk in obedience” following God’s instruction.
Father, help us to be parents (and grandparents) who pray for our children. May our children be spiritually strong and mature. Help them determine, early on, to live a life of obedience. Help them always follow hard after you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
