Mark 10:51-52
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.
Darkness. Humiliation. Rejection. Those were the things that Bartimaeus knew well. There was no hope for sight. No surgeries or transplants. He accepted his state of life as a beggar by the roadside. Then one day there was a spark of hope. A man named Jesus was coming down the road. He had heard that this man could perform miracles. Maybe Jesus could restore Bartimaeus’ sight.
Bartimaeus began to shout at the top of his lungs, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The crowd told him to be quiet! But the blind man shouted louder again and again, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and told the people to bring Bartimaeus to Him. The blind man jumped to his feet and made his way to Jesus. Can you imagine how hard his heart was pounding? The short, but miraculous, encounter is recorded in today’s passage.
Spiritual darkness. Humiliation. Rejection. Guilt. Loss. Those are the things that many know well. We are spiritual beggars separated from God by our sin, spiritually blind. But Jesus is here. And Jesus brings hope. Call out to Him. Ask for His mercy. Plead for His grace. Seek His forgiveness. He is waiting on you to shout His name. Jesus is ready to do His work in your life.
Lord Jesus, I know You are near. Today I call out Your name. I need You to [tell Jesus what you need Him to do]. I place my faith in You to provide all I need. Touch me, I pray. Amen.
