In His Grip

John 10:28-30

I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.

I grew up believing that I could lose my salvation. I was taught that I could be a child of God in the morning and be out of His family in the afternoon. I imagined a hole worn in heaven’s “Book of Life” where my name had been written and erased time after time.

I finally came to grips with the truth of today’s passage. It was after a seminary class. I walked to my car and pondered this truth, and in that parking lot, God’s Word moved from my head to my heart. I had already accepted Jesus as my Savior. That day I accepted His unconditional perfect love.

God’s unconditional love means that there is nothing I can do to make Him love me more, and there is nothing I can do to make Him love me less. That truth does not give me a license to sin; rather, it gives me the freedom to follow hard after the One who gave Himself for me on the cross. If you have trusted in the work of Christ on the cross, have you accepted the truth that you are in the grip of God? Nothing can snatch you out of His hand!

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of eternal life. And thank You for Your perfect unconditional love. Help me respond to You today with wholehearted obedience. In Your name. Amen.
