The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
I listened to a podcast where a man in his eighties was being interviewed. He said that when he was young people would say, “You are so smart.” Now decades later, people say, “You are so wise.” He jokingly said that he always wondered where the line was between being smart and being wise.
Wisdom has nothing to do with age; it has everything to do with focus. There are many smart people who don’t even believe in God. But wisdom begins with God. Honoring him as the Holy One deserving awe and honor is the starting line for real wisdom. Wisdom has nothing to do with building a faster smartphone or a new social media platform. Wisdom focuses on the “infinite game” and addresses things that matter for eternity.
Talking to God
Father, help me to fear you alone. Not people. Not culture. Not institutions. Help me bow before you in awe and honor. May I keep my focus on you—the Holy One. Help me gain insight as I read and study your word daily. And help me impart true wisdom to those you have placed in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
