Genesis 26:24-25a

And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Fear not, for I am with you….

Fear causes us to do crazy things. Afraid that the Philistines would kill him in order to have his beautiful wife, Isaac lied and said, “She is my sister” and gave her to Abimelech, the Philistine king. Unthinkable! God graciously opened the eyes of Abimelech and he gave Rebekah back to Isaac. God’s word to Isaac, as he lived in the middle of his enemies, was to the point. When God is with us, there is no need for fear.

I spoke with Liz on a Sunday morning. COVID was wreaking havoc in her body. She told me that one day she was stable and the next day declining. But she assured me that she was not afraid. She was “ready to ascend.” Why? Because God was with her. His presence drove away the fear.

Talking Points

  • Tell God what you are afraid of. Name the things that bring dread and anxiety to your heart. Ask him to let you experience his presence. Thank him for always being with you.
  • Talk to God about those in your life who are experiencing fear due to the circumstances of life. Ask God to relieve their fear and give them his peace. Let them know that you prayed for them today.

And…keep the conversation with God going throughout the day.
