Deliver Me Safely Home

Psalm 143:7-12
Answer me quickly, LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, LORD, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For your name’s sake, LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.

In this portion of Psalm 143 David prays for four things. Let’s make David’s requests our own.

Lord, let the morning bring Your unfailing love. Unfailing love is the translation of “hesed,” a rich Hebrew word that describes a love of covenant, a love that will never let us go. Let God know how much you desire this love that holds you close and never releases you.

Lord, rescue me from my enemies. Ask God to protect you from those who would want to see you fall or who are trying to make you fall. Ask Him to protect you from the Enemy who constantly seeks your destruction.

Lord, lead me by Your Spirit. Ask God to show you the path to take and the decisions to make today. Ask Him to teach you to do His will. Ask Him to give you the desire and focus to follow hard after Him.

Lord, preserve me. Ask God to protect you, to keep you safe. Ask Him to keep you walking close to Him. Ask Him to continue the good work that He started in you. Ask Him to deliver you safely home.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.
