Bring Your Shame

Luke 23:34

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Today’s passage demonstrates the depth of Jesus’ forgiveness. As Jesus hung on the cross, He asked the Father to forgive those who were killing Him. He knew that they did not understand the magnitude of their actions.

The capacity of Jesus to forgive goes beyond our capacity to sin. There is nothing that God cannot and will not forgive. Wherever you have been, He invites you back home. Whatever you have done, He waits to pardon. Sin is never an excuse to stay away from God. Forgiveness can be found only when you draw near to Him.

Too many people use the guilt and shame of sin as a barrier between themselves and God. Many believe they must clean up their acts before God will accept them. The problem with that thinking is this: no one can clean up their life on their own. Only Jesus can do that. Lay your sin—the sin He died for—before Him and let His forgiveness wash over your heart.

Lord, please break through and let me understand Your forgiveness. Let me hear Your invitation, see Your open arms, and experience Your amazing grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
