Bread. No Crumbs.

Matthew 15:25-28

The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said. He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.” “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

A woman of Greek heritage came to Jesus begging for His help. Her daughter was possessed by a demon and experienced terrible suffering. The woman kept following Jesus and His disciples crying out after them. Jesus did not respond to her plea. Instead, He said, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”

When the woman heard this she fell at Jesus’ feet and cried out, “Lord, help me!” Jesus, testing her faith, said that the dogs should not take the children’s bread. But the woman’s wit and faith sparked Jesus to act. She was willing to settle for “crumbs” from Jesus. The Lord congratulated her for such great faith and gave her so much more than crumbs. He healed her daughter.

Jesus always provides what we need to do what He has called us to do. He came to give all of Himself so that we could have an eternal relationship with the Father. He died so we could live. He did not give us His leftovers; He gave us His life.

Father, thank You that with Jesus there are no crumbs. Your work is always full and complete through Him. Thank You for the eternal life that is provided by the complete sacrifice of Jesus. In His name we pray. Amen.
